Gollum is a virus that infects machines running on Windows 3.x.

It is named after the character of the same name from Tolkein's Lord of the Rings series. Although relatively unknown, it was coded by a member of 29A, Griyo.

BehaviourEdit

Once run, the computer will restart. If the date is 4th July on any year, a passage from The Hobbit will be displayed. It reads as follows:

GoLLuM ViRuS by Griyo/29A
Deep down here by the Dark Water lived old Gollum, a small slimey creature.
I don't know where he came from, nor who or what he was.
He was a gollum -as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face.

Proceeding will bring you back to the File Manager. It does not do any lasting damage to the machine, and from that point functionality is completely normal, and the user may continue with their work. Due to the fact that it only serves to interrupt the user periodically with the passage of text, it is possible that Gollum is one of the earliest known Joke Programs for Microsoft Windows.
