Giftrain is adware and a Potentially Unwanted Program. If you are seeing pop-up ads from whenever you open a new tab within Internet Explorer, Firefox or Google Chrome, you have the adware on your PC. It can be removed using AdwCleaner, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and HitmanPro.

The pop-up happens regardless of the web browser or search engine, and if you are seeing ads from whenever you are doing a Google search or visiting a website, then your computer may be infected with adware or a potentially unwanted program.

This infection is designed specifically to make money. It generates web traffic, collects sales leads for other dubious sites, and will display advertisements and sponsored links within your web browser, which is usually annoying.

The pop-up ads are caused by an ad-supported (users may see additional banner, search, pop-up, pop-under, interstitial and in-text link advertisements) web browser plugin for Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome, which is distributed through various monetization platforms during installation. This malicious browser extension is typically added when you install another program (video recorder/streamer, download manager or PDF creator) that had bundled this adware program.

When the malicious browser extension is installed, whenever you will click on a link or open a new tab within Internet Explorer, Firefox or Google Chrome, a page on will pop-up asking you to complete a survey.

Usually the pop-up will promise the user a prize (eg: iPhone, iPad, MacBook Air or another product) if they complete the survey. However, in reality, these cyber criminals will get some sort of revenue for each survey you complete.

Furthermore, if you agree to take this survey, you’ll at the end have to enter your phone number and by completing the survey you automatically agree that you will pay $5 a week for a service you definitely do not need.

This infection will also display advertising banners on the webpages that you are visiting, and as you browse the Internet, it will show coupons and other deals available on different websites. is not a malicious domain itself, but it is a survey scam. Cyber criminals are using an adware program to display ads from this domain, thus getting pay-per-click revenue.

You should always pay attention when installing software because often, a software installer includes optional software, such as these pop-up ads. Be very careful what you agree to install.

Always opt for the custom installation and deselect anything that is not familiar, especially optional software that you never wanted to download and install in the first place. It goes without saying that you should not install software that you don’t trust.
