Clam Antivirus

ClamAV logo

Clam AntiVirus (ClamAV) is a free, open-source, cross-platform antivirus software tool-kit for Unix operating systems. One of its main uses is on mail servers as a server-side email virus scanner. The application was developed for Unix and has third party versions available for AIX, BSD, HP-UX, Linux, OpenVMS, OSF, and Solaris. There is a program on Linux called "ClamTK" used to give Clam Antivirus a graphical user interface.[1][2] Both ClamAV and its updates are made available free of charge.

ClamWinEdit

ClamWin is free, open source antivirus software for Microsoft Windows. It provides a graphical user interface to the ClamAV (Clam AntiVirus) engine.

Features Edit

  • Scanning scheduler (only effective with user logged in).
  • Automatic virus database updates on a regular basis.
  • Standalone virus-scanner.
  • Context menu integration for Windows Explorer.
  • Add-in for Microsoft Outlook.
  • A portable version that can be used from a USB flash drive.

Real-Time Scanning Edit

ClamWin does not yet automatically scan files as they are read and written. This feature is planned for inclusion in the next major version update.[3] However, this feature has been claimed to be in development since at least December 10, 2005.[4] For users of older systems, it is currently possible to add this functionality by using Winpooch or Clam Sentinel.
